My designs are hand made, created in limited runs and unique combinations. I also like making customized pieces! You can ask me about specific colours, materials or sizes through my Contact Me form or on Instagram.
Illustration Process
I use Procreate and my iPad, sometimes starting with an analog drawing but usually I start with a digital sketch or references.
Laser Cutting Process
I will sometimes use references and drawings, but often just go into Adobe Illustrator and start making vector artwork.
Once the first pass art is ready, it needs to be tested by exporting it to the laser cutter software. Depending on the material (wood, acrylic, textiles) the settings need to be adjusted. If there are multiple pieces in a design combined together, this can take several tries to get the final results looking right.
Once the design looks the way I want, I cut out more pieces and then assemble them by hand into earrings, pendants, bag charms, or other custom designs like wall installations.
Ideas can come from my life, or from looking at the materials I have and seeing interesting ways of combining them. I also have customers tell me what they like, which can inspire new designs.
Maker Lab in Vancouver
I work at the FabLab Vancouver maker space. The owner (Jason) and other community members are helpful and inspiring.
Local Material and Packaging Suppliers
I try to order locally, including Canadian suppliers for acrylic, findings, and packaging.
Most of my earring findings are from Beazu Wholesale, just up the street from FabLab.
My printed packaging is made at Jukebox Print in Richmond.
